Nod for pacer Harding as Pride make forced changes

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Barbados Pride have called up uncapped teenager Keon Harding in a revamped 13-man squad for their seventh round game Regional four-day championship against leaders Guyana Jaguars starting here tomorrow.

The 19-year-old fast bowler is one of four changes from the last round when Pride defeated Windward Islands Volcanoes by an innings and 56 runs at Kensington Oval, early on the final day last Monday.

Seamer Justin Greaves, along with opener Omar Phillips and off-spinner Hayden Walsh Jr, have all been included.

Pride will miss the trio of Carlos Brathwaite, Ashley Nurse and Sulieman Benn, all of whom are set to leave the Caribbean this weekend with the West Indies squad, for a preparation camp in Dubai ahead of the Twenty20 World Cup starting next month in India.

Fast bowler Kemar Roach, meanwhile, who limped off early on the opening morning of Pride’s clash against Volcanoes after sending down just 19 deliveries early, has been left out.

The Windies pacer took no further part in the game.

Pride will once again be led by Test opener Kraigg Brathwaite and includes Jonathan Carter, who failed to make the final XI against Volcanoes.

Harding is widely regarded as a promising pacer for the future and was only last week the recipient of the Desmond Haynes Scholarship.

Greaves, meanwhile, represented Pride in last month’s Regional Super50 in Trinidad and Tobago where he played three games and took three wickets.

He has played one first class game – for Combined Campuses and Colleges two years ago.

SQUAD – Kraigg Brathwaite (captain), Shamarh Brooks, Jonathan Carter, Roston Chase, Kyle Corbin, Miguel Cummins, Shane Dowrich, Justin Greaves, Keon Harding, Shai Hope, Omar Phillips, Kevin Stoute, Hayden Walsh Jr.
