Corentyne man jailed for gas station robbery

A Number 51 Village, Corentyne man was on Monday sentenced to three years in jail after he admitted to robbing employees of a gas station.

Andrew Lowenfield pleaded guilty to a charge of armed robbery after being read the charge at the Springlands Magistrate’s Court. The court was told that on January 17, Lowenfield invaded the Number 50 gas station and robbed two employees of an undisclosed amount of cash.

Stabroek News was told that Lowenfield rode a bicycle to the gas station, where he used a cutlass to force the two employees, a pump attendant and a clerk, to hand over all of the cash. The police had launched an investigation and Lowenfield was held last Friday.

Meanwhile, Lowenfield has also been charged with an attempted robbery that was committed on January 18 on Lalta Mohabir, also known as “Lutch,” 73, of 13 Alness Village, Corentyne.

Mohabir, after hearing his window being broken, jumped from his verandah and injured his foot. However, the would-be home invader was unable to enter Mohabir’s heavily grilled home.
