Guinness Greatest of the Streets returns

After much anticipation, the 3rd Annual Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ West Demerara/East Bank Demerara zone commences today at the Pouderoyen Tarmac with 10 matches.

Speaking at the official launch yesterday at the Banks DIH Limited conference room, Guinness Brand Manager Lee Baptiste during brief remarks said, “I expect six days of exciting football adding, “Banks DIH through its Guinness brand continues to pave the way in supporting community development”.

According to Baptiste, Colours Boutique continues their budding partnership with the company by providing complete uniforms to the respective participants which “uplifts the tournament in terms of presentation”.

He declared that this year has seen an increase in participation of approximately 20 teams which illustrates the continued success of the event.

The first two nights of the event will be contested in an elimination format, with the resulting 16 teams being divided into four groups of four. At the end of the group round, the top two finishers will progress to the quarterfinal stage.

In the tourney opener at 19:00hrs, Riders tackle Patentia Street Ballers while Harmony-B engages Good Intent All-Stars from 19:30hrs. At 20:00hrs, Admiral United opposes Speed Boat, while ESPN matches skill with Samaroo Dam from 20:30hrs.

Bagotstown Warriors will then faceoff with Young Ballers of Parfaite Harmonie at 21:00hrs in the first qualifier, while the second qualifier will pit Hustlers against Bagotstown Ballers at 21:30hrs.

The seventh fixture will witness Agricola against Future Crane at 22:00hrs while De Kinderen Ballers tackle Vege Boyz from 22:30hrs. The final two fixtures will pit former winner Westside Ballers against Comfort Ballers at 22:30hrs, and defending champion Showstoppers against the highly touted Small Panama.

Winner of the tournament will receive $450,000, the championship trophy and right to represent the zone at the National Championship. The second, third and fourth placed teams will receive $150,000, $100,000 and $50,000 respectively.
