Citizens should continue their drive against the parking meters

Dear Editor,

I am pretty sure that the MAPM is both flabbergasted and amused by Mayor Chase-Green’s contrite invitation to a ‘consultative’ meeting today at 10am.

While not deterred by innuendo and insults, I feel compelled to remind of the names they have been referred to by the Mayor and senior members of her administration over the past week. I must underscore the fact that were it not for the public groundswell of scorn against the odious parking meter fiasco, there would have been no ‘consultations’ or ‘invitations’.

As of today, there is a contract in place that was born of disregard and disrespect for the Laws of Guyana and the wishes of the populace. As of today also, there are draconian and arguably unconstitutional by-laws in place that have now soiled the pages of the Official Gazette.

I therefore call upon the people to resist the public relations and political PR campaign by City Hall to score photo ops crudely branded as ‘consultations’. As I speak, the contract is in force, and the by-laws are law. The battle has not yet been won.

So, citizens should not pay for parking. They should not accept a reduction.

Let’s continue our successful drive to rid Guyana of this parking meter fiasco.

Yours faithfully,
