Corn Bread Mini Mart murder accused to know fate today

Ray Yokum, Steffon Campbell and Faisal Moore who are accused of murdering Glen Xavier, are likely to know their fate later this afternoon, after a jury deliberates on the case against them.

Justice Navindra Singh, who is presiding, has set this morning for summing-up the matter. He will thereafter hand it over to the 12-member mixed jury for its deliberation and the possible return of a verdict.

The charge against the trio, is that on May 9, 2012 at D’Urban Street, they murdered Xavier, in the course or furtherance of a robbery.

The men, who led their respective defences earlier this week, have all professed innocence, stating they knew nothing about the murder.

The jury heard closing addresses from both the prosecution and defence yesterday.

Yokum, Campbell and Moore are represented by attorneys George Thomas, Maxwell McKay and Trenton Lake, respectively.

The state, meanwhile, is represented by prosecutors Siand Dhurjon and Tuanna Hardy.

The case is being heard at the High Court in Georgetown.

Xavier, 26, of Harlem, West Coast Demerara was shot and killed after being robbed around 9pm, at the Corn Bread Mini Mart at D’Urban and Lime streets, Georgetown.

Men armed with handguns carried out the attack, before escaping with an undisclosed amount of cash on two Honda CG motorcycles.

Xavier, who was shot in his chest and left hand, later succumbed to his injuries. He died from haemorrhage and shock, due to gunshot injuries.
