Pomeroon farmer feared dead following boat collision

A 52-year-old farmer is missing and feared dead, after the boat in which he was travelling collided with another on Sunday evening in the Lower Pomeroon River.

Missing is Kenneth Joseph of Grant Anna Regina, Lower Pomeroon River.

The incident occurred around 20:00 hrs on Sunday.

Stabroek News was reliably informed that Joseph and another farmer, Leon George, 57, were in a small wooden boat proceeding east along the Pomeroon River when an outboard powered boat operated by Rondel Cameron, 24, a farmer, which was proceeding in the opposite direction, collided head on with their boat.

At the time of the incident, Joseph who was seated in the front of their boat paddling, reportedly fell into the water and disappeared without a trace. A search was carried out to locate him, but up to yesterday afternoon, he had not been found.

An investigation has since been launched, and Cameron has been taken into police custody, as the search continues for Joseph.
