Working to improve phone service to Annai

Dear Editor,

Please allow us to respond to Mr L Williams’ letter ‘Intermittent phone service in North Rupununi for last four months’ published in the Stabroek News, March 1 edition.

We regret the inconvenience being experienced by some customers in the Annai community due to intermittent service. When this situation developed in January we used the local radio station to advise the community of the problem, and of our continued efforts to have the situation rectified as soon as possible.

By way of information, the service failures in Annai are as a result of faults that have developed in equipment installed in Georgetown, used to provide service to this remote location.

We have taken several steps to improve the service and teams would be in the field this weekend, weather permitting, to bring further improvements to the service. Simultaneously, we are working with the equipment manufacturer to have replacement equipment shipped to Guyana.

We thank the residents of Annai for their patience in this situation. Please be assured that Annai is a part of GTT’s vision of the digital future for Guyana. We are working to bring transformation to the service there as we are doing in other parts of the country.

Yours faithfully,

Nadia De Abreu
