Plaisance Secondary in come-from-behind win against Marian Academy

Plaisance Secondary overcame a 15-point deficit to defeat Marian Academy in overtime 57-52 when the

National Schools Basketball Festival (NSBF) Regional Conference continued Saturday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue.

Jared Sears recorded a game-high 28 points with six three-pointers and five rebounds for Plaisance Secondary while Andrew Johnson and Nigel Bowen contributed 13 and 10 points respectively.

For Marian Academy, Jahleel Young registered 16 points and five rebounds while Timothy Thompson scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Assisting with nine points was Jether Harris.

In another overtime contest Government Technical Institute (GTI) edged President’s College 45-43 in their U19 fixture. Shamar Huntley recorded figures of 21 points and five rebounds in the win.

Assisting with 11 points was Nickosie Allicock.

For President’s College, Akeem Crandon bagged a double-double of 22 points and 15 rebounds while Anton Fileen added nine points and seven rebounds.

In the U14 section, Marian Academy crushed St. Joseph’s High 34-17. Jether Harris outscored the entire opposing team with 20 points and seven rebounds.

In the second fixture of the division, President’s College downed Bishops’ High 30-21. Gabriel Lam led the East Coast of Demerara unit with 11 points and eight rebounds while Joshua Butts chipped in with eight points.

For Bishops’ High, Aneas Booker scored 11 points and grabbed five rebounds while Shamar Layne assisted with eight points. The event is sponsored by Edward B. Beharry Group of Company and the National Sports Commission.
