Elated at meeting between President, Queen

Dear Editor,

The undersigned was most joyful when I saw my President, our President, His Excellency, Brigadier David Arthur Granger meet the Queen of England. It is my view that all Guyanese, from all regions, from all races and religions should look at that moment with pride and honour.

Over the past few days, I read a post on Facebook by a well-known Guyanese writer where he stated that the President resembled ‘a subdued little boy paying tribute to his master. His body language and posture says it all.’ This writer found such a comment to be most wicked, rude and completely ludicrous. I have said before that I, Roshan Khan at times may disagree with a Government policy or action but it is against my nature and training to disrespect authority in any way or at any time.

I recall last year when former President of the United States, Mr. Barack Obama visited Saudi Arabia and upon meeting King Salman bin Abdul-Aziz, he respectfully bowed and shook his hands. The President’s action which should have been praised had a completely opposite reaction from a few negative personalities; it caused some in the USA to go into a mode of antagonism and for weeks they relentlessly attacked and criticized President Obama for the honour he showed the King of Saudi Arabia.

Unfortunately, some will curse me for having this view but I have always striven to be a fair and honest commentator. To me, the President of our Co-operative Republic, Brigadier David Arthur Granger is a former military officer of the highest calibre. Further, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is the Head of the Commonwealth of which our country, Guyana, is a respected and dynamic member. From the photograph, one can agree that it simply shows that he gives  military attention to the Head of the Commonwealth.

I advise the critics of President Granger to “look again and see”. I see no error here. No submission. I see a classy, graceful and elegant man in the presence of a mature, respected and elegant lady.

Our President in his tenure is displaying more diplomacy and tact over previous Socialist lovers who were our leaders and whose philosophy brought misery to our country from their abuse and disrespect towards the UK, before, during and after independence. It is the view of this writer that had the hands of nationalization and abuses not been placed on this land, Guyana would have been as Singapore and Malaysia and possibly even Hong Kong.

So I salute our President for his devotion to this country and its people. By exemplifying such excellent diplomacy, his Excellency has paved the way for Guyana to receive more invitations and maybe even visits from Kings and Queens from all around the globe; which will boost our tourism, sector, investment capacity and our industries’ production. Let Guyana prosper, let us celebrate our independence but always remain humble and respectful.

Yours faithfully,

Roshan Khan Snr.
