ILO Representatives visit National Insurance Scheme

Representatives from the International Labour Organisation (ILO) were in Guyana on a special mission with the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) from May 9 to yesterday.

A release from the NIS said that the two-member team comprised Ariel Pino, Social Protection and OHS Specialist, ILO Decent Work Team and Office for the Caribbean and Lou Enoff, ILO Consultant from the USA.

The release said that the main objective of the mission was to collect information from the NIS and the relevant stakeholders with a view to helping the NIS in developing a strategy to extend social insurance coverage to the self- employed.

The team met with NIS Board members, Senior Management staff, Research and Information Systems Staff and Operations staff which included Benefits and Compliance Staff.

The mission delegates were to have met with the Small Business Bureau and Deeds Registry before concluding their visit.
