It is always riskier to bat last

Dear Editor,

The description used so far to describe the pitch, was “flat”. It is difficult to understand why the opposition is sent in to bat on a flat pitch. The score of some 370 suggests that the pitch was not difficult for batting. Wouldn’t the West Indies have been satisfied with this score? It is always unwise to send in the opposition, but it is particularly unwise to send them in on a flat pitch. It is time West Indians stopped punishing themselves in that manner. There should be a law against this practice. When you spin the coin you cannot predict how the wicket will play for 5 days. It is always riskier to bat last, and your batsmen are always tired after being in the sun for a long time. Winning the toss and using the wicket first is always the better option.

Yours faithfully,
