GOBSA two-day meet on this weekend

In an effort to get the competitive juices of the junior athletes flowing ahead of next week’s South American U-20 Championships, the Guyana Overseas Based Sports Association Inc., (GOBSA) has decided to host a two-day meet this weekend at the National Track and Field Centre.

During yesterday’s launch, President of the association, David Thomas spoke about some of the plans of the GOBSA.

“Our motto is to develop Guyana’s youth locally and internationally through grounded education and wherever we can help those athletes in need,” Thomas shared.

Organiser within the Association, Oswald Thomas stated what the organisation hopes to accomplish within Guyana’s athletics framework.

“We want to help them gain opportunities to further themselves, we don’t want to deplete the talent here but we want to help these athletes be positive youths through scholarships,” Thomas mentioned.

Former champion athlete, Gordon Lewis, also shared his two cents on his role with the organisation and what they hope to accomplish.

“We just want them to know that athletics is a mechanism as a way out, where you can get a good education but last year we had a good event and we feel the need to make this event an annual event, but the intention is to encourage the athletes track and field can actually get you where you want to where you want to be in life,” Lewis noted.

The meet is dubbed ‘Guyana versus the Rest’.
