Nurse hospitalised after struck by car at Fyrish

A nurse is hospitalised at the New Amsterdam Hospital after she was struck by a speeding car on the Fyrish Access Road on Sunday.

Stabroek News was reliably informed that Carol Sampson, 52, of Fyrish Village, Corentyne was struck down whilst walking on the road around 3.30 pm on Sunday.

According to a police source, Nicon Henry, 29, of also of Fyrish Village, was driving motor car, PPP 7723, at a fast rate when he swerved from another pedestrian and ended up colliding with Sampson.

As a result of the collision, Sampson was flung several feet away from the point of impact and sustained injuries to the head and body.

She was picked up in an unconscious state by the driver of the motor car and rushed to the Port Mourant Hospital for medical treatment and later transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital. At present the source said her condition is regarded as stable.

Meanwhile, the driver is in police custody assisting with investigations.
