Brothers charged with shooting at cop, stealing his jewellery

Two brothers were yesterday remanded to prison, after they were charged with shooting at an off-duty policeman, and robbing him of $800,000 in jewellery.

Darren Wilson

Darren Wilson, 19, and Franklin Wilson, 20, stood before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan who first read a charge which stated that on March 12, at Georgetown, they discharged a loaded firearm at Morris Williams, with intent to maim, disfigure or disable.

It was also alleged that the duo, of 476 Middle Road, La Penitence, on the same date and at the same location, while armed with a gun, robbed Williams of a $600,000 gold chain and a $200,000 gold band.

They pleaded not guilty.

Police prosecutor Arvin Moore told the court that during the robbery there was an exchange of gunshots. He noted that the chain was recovered at the scene of the robbery after Williams gave chase.

The prosecutor objected to bail being granted, while noting that the brothers were positively identified.

According to the prosecutor, the file in relation to the matter is complete.

The brothers were denied bail and remanded to prison by the Chief Magistrate, who adjourned the case until May 11.
