Plaisance woman freed of passport application fraud charge

Carlotta Meusa, the Plaisance woman who was charged last year with falsifying her passport application, was yesterday freed due to insufficient evidence against her.

Carlotta Meusa

It was alleged, that on January 25th, 2011, Meusa, 35, of 75 Prince William Street, Plaisance, falsely declared her date of birth as October 27th, 1983, in her application to procure a passport from the Central Immigration and Passport Office in Georgetown.

City magistrate Leron Daly, during her ruling yesterday, told the court that the prosecution failed to prove that the the birth certificate, which had the date of birth as October 27th, 1983, was forged, since it was not signed by anyone.

She noted that in the absence of a signature, the court could not be sure who forged the document.

It was upon these bases that the charge against Meusa was dismissed.
