Curran heads for Caribbean to cover for injured Ball

LONDON, CMC – Rookie Tom Curran will fly out to the Caribbean to join up with the England one-day squad in Antigua, after being called up as cover for injured fast bowler Jake Ball.

The 21-year-old Curran was part of the England Lions squad in a tour of Sri Lanka and will now make the long trek to the Caribbean for the three-match series against West Indies which bowls off on Friday at the Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium.

“It’s all pretty surreal right now,” the Surrey paceman said. “But I’m giddy, I can’t wait to get out there.”

Curran has been impressive on the current Sri Lankan tour, taking 10 wickets at an average of 19 in the two four-day games against Sri Lanka A.

He has had a brilliant career to date with 147 wickets from just 42 first class games and 58 wickets from 36 List A outings.

Ball, the Nottinghamshire seamer, injured his right knee in England’s two-wicket victory over the WICB President’s XI in St Kitts on Monday.
