Johnson, Bowen lead Plaisance past GTI

Plaisance Secondary and Tutorial High secured hard-fought wins in the boys U19 section of the Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) Conference Championship which commenced Friday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue.

Plaisance downed Government Technical Institute (GTI) 52-44. Andrew Johnson bagged a double-double of 19 points, 10 steals and four steals, while Nigel Bowen tallied a double-double of 13 points and 21 rebounds.

For GTI, Darnell Hamer recorded a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds while Shamar Huntley netted 12 points. Similarly, Tutorial High edged St. Rose’s High 32-28. Zion Gray scored 12 points and six rebounds whilst Johnny Griffith tallied 10 points and eight rebounds for Tutorial High. For St. Rose’s High, Mark July and Joshua Spencer scored 10 and six points each.

In the girls Zone, Marian Academy made light work of St. Rose’s High 21-4. Jada Mohan recorded 11 points and eight steals while Renuka Ramcharran and Jahrier Young chipped in with four points and four rebounds apiece.

Ashley Khan scored four points and pulled down four rebounds for the losing team. Also, President College edged Bishops’ High 12-10. Saffiya Green tallied four points and five rebounds in the win whilst Lydia Roberts registered four points and four rebounds.

For the losing team, Claudia Garraway bagged four points and four rebounds and Keshan Charles recorded three points and nine rebounds.

In the boys U16 section, St. Joseph’s mauled Christ Church 41-4. Tahir Meusa top scored with 15 points and had five rebounds while Shaquann Gill assisted with 14 points and pulled in six rebounds.

For the losing team, Lyton Luke scored four points. Continuing in the same division, St. Roses High downed Marian Academy 30-22. Anthony Yansen was the primary scorer for the victor with 21 points and four rebounds while Shamar Atwell scored eight points and three assists and Jether Harris netted six points and grabbed as many rebounds for the losing team. In the final matchup of the section, President’s College defeated Tutorial High 26-20. Richard Semple scored eight points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Rakim McDonald assisted with six points and seven rebounds. Joel Spooner netted 11 points, and had five rebounds and four steals for Tutorial High. The event resumes at the same venue Friday.
