Old Fort, GCC crowned champs as Igloo Hockey Festival concludes

Old Fort secured the Men’s title while Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) clinched the Women’s category when the second annual Igloo Hockey Festival concluded Sunday at the GCC ground, Bourda.

Old Fort downed Saints HC 6-3 to secure the title. Askofu Simon bagged a hat-trick in the win while John Abrams, Jason DeSantos and Jason Clarke also found the back of the net.

For the losing team, Hilton Chester bagged a brace while Kwesi Lewis scored the other goal. Old Fort had sealed their berth to the final after edging Pepsi Hikers 6-5 while Saints downed Bounty GCC in a penalty shoot-out in the semi-final round.

On the other hand, Pizza Hut GCC defeated traditional foe Woodpecker Hikers 4-1. Trisha Woodroffe recorded a hat-trick while Sandy Roopnarine tallied a solitary strike for the home side. For Woodpecker Hikers Latacia Chung scored.

Meanwhile, GCC clinched the lion share of the other divisional titles, securing five out of a possible seven. GCC Hurricanes claimed the under-10 mixed accolade, while GCC Marian and GCC Spartans secured the under-14 and under-17 Girls divisions respectively.

Also, GCC Spartans and Bounty GCC secured the under-21 Girls and Boys championships. Saints Scorpions and Old Fort clinched the under-14 and under-17 Boys titles respectively.

On the individual side, Abosaide Cadogan and Sarah Klautky of GCC Spartans ended as the female top scorer with 21 goals, while Kareem McKenzie of Bounty GCC finished as the make top shot with 15 conversions.
