Top teams advance as Futsal Nation Cup commences

Sparta Boss, Broad Street, Gold is Money, New Market Street and the African Team secured their places in the group round when the inaugural Street Vibes Entertainment, ‘Futsal Nation Cup’ commenced on Thursday.

Played at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue, Sparta Boss brushed aside Channel-9 Warriors 4-0 with Courtney Britton tallying a double in the fifth and seventh minute.

He was supported by goals from the experienced duo of Gregory Richardson and Eusi Phillips in the second and 14th minute apiece. Meanwhile, Gold is Money edged Albouystown-B 3-2. Deon Alfred recorded a double in the third and 15th minute while Jamal Pedro scored in the 11th minute. For Albouystown-B, Melvorn Ross and Andre Webber netted in the 14th and 17th minute respectively.

Similarly, New Market Street edged Showstoppers 5-4. Orin Moore tallied a hat-trick in the eighth, 10th and 11th minute while Jamal Blackman and Nigel Garraway scored in the first and third minute respectively.

Kwesi Henry bagged a double in the loss in the sixth and 14th minute, while Marvin Josiah and E. Thomas netted in the fifth and 12th minute respectively. Newcomers the African Team downed Guinness Cage titlist Ol Skool Ballers 4-2.

Benjamin Opara recorded a hat-trick in fifth, 15th and 19th minute while sibling Kenneth Opara scored in the 14th minute. For the losing team, Roy Cassou netted twice in the third and ninth minute.

Broad Street battled past Mocha 4-3, with Daniel Favourite scoring a hat-trick in the second, fifth and 16th minute to go with a Jimmy Gravesande strike in the 11th minute.

For the losers, Amos Ramsay, Orville Stewart and Rolex Smith found the back of the net in the 12th, 14th and 17th minute respectively. In other results, Hustlers dismissed Pike Street Sophia 3-0. Josiah Charles registered a double in the fourth and eighth minute, while Anthony Sancho added to the score in the 13th minute while  MBK All-Stars and Leopold Street gained walkovers from  Agricola Champion Boys and Melanie respectively. The event resumes today at the same venue with another eight matches.

At 19:00hrs, Future Stars will engage Campbellville, while Swag Entertainment battles Beterverwagting (BV) at 19:30hrs and Agricola Champion Boys opposes Tucville from 20:00hrs.

In the fourth matchup, Dave and Celina’s will tackle West Back Road at 20:30hrs and Silver Bullets will take aim at North East La Penitence from 21:00hrs. In the sixth contest, North Ruimveldt opposes the Brazilian Team from 21:30hrs, whilst Albouystown-A tackles Bent Street at 22:00hrs and Back Circle engages Alexander Village at 22:30hrs. Winner of the tournament will pocket $700,000 and the championship trophy, while the second, third and fourth place finishers will receive $250,000, $150,000 and $100,000 respectively and the corresponding accolade.
