A Guyana Defence Force (GDF) rank attached to the group that has been drilling wells in Region Nine drowned yesterday afternoon while swimming in the Rupununi River.

Dead is 20-year-old Teron Halley, who at the time of his death, was a part of a group deployed in Karaudarnau, South Rupununi. The incident reportedly occurred at around 6pm.

Details of what transpired as of last evening remained sketchy; however, information reaching this newspaper indicates that Halley had been playing football earlier in the afternoon before leaving with two others to go swimming in the Rupununi River.

However, time passed and only the two persons who had accompanied Halley, returned.

As of press time last night, Halley’s remains were being transported to the Lethem Regional Hospital’s mortuary.
