Decomposed body found in Kurupung River

Police in Kurupung, in the Cuyuni-Mazaruni District, are investigating the death of an unidentified man of Amerindian descent, who was found floating in the Kurupung River.

The discovery, police said, was made around 2.30 pm on Thursday by a group of persons travelling in the river. They reported their discovery to police in the area.

Police believe that the body had been floating in the creek for approximately four days prior to the discovery. It was in an advanced state of decomposition.

Acting Commander of ‘F’ Division Kevin Adonis yesterday told Stabroek News that no one had come forward to identify the body. He explained that investigators visited two nearby mining camps but no one was missing from either.

As a result, he said the police are still continuing investigations.
