No bail for pork knocker on attempted murder charge

A pork knocker was yesterday remanded to prison after he was charged with the attempted murder of a miner and the court heard that the victim is hospitalised and not yet out of danger.

Bronson Wiltshire stood in the courtroom of the Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan to answer to the charge that on November 25th, at Crusher Head, Oko Backdam, Cuyuni River, with intent to commit murder, he unlawfully wounded Kurt Walton.
Wiltshire, 29, of 184 Charlotte Street, Bourda, was not required to plead to the indictable charge.‘Police prosecutor Gordon Mansfield objected to the accused being granted bail. He cited the fact that the complainant remains hospitalised at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) and is not yet out of danger. Mansfield noted that Walton was rushed to the Bartica Hospital and then later transferred to the GPH after suffering stab wounds to his head and in the region of his abdomen.

The police’s case is that about 3 pm on the day in question, Walton was at a shop drinking when he was approached by Wiltshire, who questioned him about money he owed in relation to cannabis. It is alleged that Walton told the defendant that he did not have any money, which caused the accused to pull out a knife and stab him.

The Chief Magistrate remanded the accused to prison and adjourned the matter until December 20th, when it is expected to be heard at Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
