GFA to stage Electoral Congress next month

The most prominent member of the Guyana Football (GFF), the Georgetown Football Association (GFA), will stage its Electoral Congress during the month of February.

This was revealed by General Secretary (Ag) of the entity Nichola Young, who stated: “It should be in February, once all the clubs have made the submission of documents and come into good standing.”

She added, “The election cannot occur until the clubs are in good standing. There are a few that are in good standing but the majority aren’t. It [the election] should occur before the end of February.”

Asked if the GFF had granted an extension of their tenure due to the state of the clubs, she declared, “Yes, they did.” The GFA was initially scheduled to host its elections in November 2017.

Presently, former Commander of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) ‘A’ Division Clifton Hicken, is at the helm of the institution.

Hicken was elected to the top post on October 18th 2015, defeating former Guyana Football Federation (GFF) President Christopher Matthias 8-2 in an election conducted under the slate system at the Sleepin International Hotel.

The process was witnessed by then Normalization Committee (NC) Chairman Clinton Urling, GFF General-Secretary Diedre Davis as well as NC member Tariq William.

The other members of the winning slate were Vice President Aaron Fraser, Vice President Frank Parris, Vice President Charles Greaves, General Secretary Althea Scipio and Assistant Secretary/Treasurer Lloyd Millington.
