Newcomers Capital FC secures maiden win

Newcomer Capital FC secured their maiden win in the Upper Demerara Football Association [UDFA] senior ranks, defeating Hi-Stars 3-0 Sunday in the GT-Beer Year-end tournament.

It was a cagey affair at the Mackenzie Sports Club [MSC] ground, Linden, as both teams battled for the all-important win.

Capital FC grabbed the opening goal on the stroke of half time through Emmanuel Atkins.

Upon resumption, guest player [the event allows for three per team] Andrew Murray Jr. made his presence felt, slotting home in the 48th minute to put further distance between the teams.

The historic result was then completed in the 85th minute when Murray Jr. sealed his double.

Awarded a penalty kick following a wild challenge inside the area, Murray Jr. made no mistake from the mark, as he dispatched his effort with aplomb past the Hi-Stars shot-stopper.

Meanwhile, Topp XX overcame fierce rival Amelia’s Ward Panthers 2-1.

Veteran midfielder Travis Watterton recorded the event’s fastest goal, lashing a powerful effort into the back of the net in the first minute.

However, Panthers through Akeem Caesar who curled a perfectly placed free kick past the opposing custodian in the 25th minute.

Topp XX secured what proved to be the deciding goal in the 40th minute when stalwart Ryan Noel blasted the ball into back of the net.

 The Topp XX defence held firm in the second period to secure the vital victory. The event resumes on Friday at the same venue with another round of matches.

 In the opening fixture, Net-Rockers battle Blueberry Hill from 19:00hrs, while Topp XX oppose Winners Connection in the feature affair at 21:00hrs.
