Appointment of Sheronie James needs to be explained

Dear Editor,

The sudden resignation of Sheronie James, Deputy Head at SOCU ostensibly for reasons linked to her failure to produce her qualifications is shocking. However, I have noticed with alarm how easily Guyanese are sold on the idea of foreign intervention and foreigners as well intentioned and acting in our best interests.  Only the naïve can believe this to be so.  We need to be far more questioning, more analytical and perhaps more cynical when we open our doors to foreign aid no matter how friendly and benign they may appear to be.

That brings me to the larger issue.  Why was Ms. James appointed to such a senior position if she did not possess the requisite qualifications?  Minister Ramjattan and the British High Commissioner owe the people of Guyana an explanation and when they offer that explanation they should also explain the role of Sam Sittlington, another British import.

Yours faithfully,
