PPP manifesto must reflect hopes of working people as its first priority

Dear Editor,

Now that the PPP has identified its Presidential Candidate it is incumbent that members, supporters and well-wishers of the Party start thinking of where we go from here.

The Party’s manifesto in my humble view must reflect the hopes, dreams and aspirations of the working people as its first priority. Guyanese are fed-up and weary of policies and promises that failed to materialize within the last three and a half years of the AFC+ APNU ‘rainbow’ coalition.

It is now time to look up, speak-up while breaking down those barriers to social and economic changes aimed at providing a decent standard of life, through the prudent management of the economy. Mere promises of the ‘good life’ have proved to be the greatest deception by far.

The need, however, is to deliver the goods and services that will provide equal opportunities and social justice, (1992 -2015) rather than focusing on a parasitic, corrupt bureaucratic elite sapping the

energy and lifeblood of our working people. This has led to growing sense of frustration, despair and hopelessness, especially among the youths many of whom have no jobs. The ‘election’ of a Presidential candidate at this time must be viewed as a unique opportunity for a Candidate considered in my view to be first among equals to advance viable policies to arrest the downward spiral in the socio-economic environment, as well as, improving the well-being of our working people.

As long as the PPP does not deviate from or squander the legacy of its founder leader Dr Cheddi Jagan it will continue to be a united, strong and vibrant Party certain to emerge victorious in the upcoming General and Regional Elections. It is comrade Cheddi’s vision over the years that has successfully guided this Party in its quest to serve the Guyanese people.

Yours faithfully,

Khame Sharma
