A Sophia resident was yesterday remanded to prison after he was accused of stealing $1 million in property belonging to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

It is alleged that Mark Bynoe, between February 13th and February 14th, at Ganges Street, Sophia, stole a Myers pressure pump and a Myers pressure tank, both valued at $500,000 each, property of the EPA.

Bynoe, 30, denied the charge. Police prosecutor Gordon Mansfield objected to the accused being granted bail. The prosecutor stated that on the day in question, at about 5 am, a rural constable was on his way to work when he saw Bynoe and another person pushing two separate pushcarts with the items.

On April 15th, Bynoe was contacted by police and when told of the crime he stated that he was contacted by someone to remove the items but he denied doing so. Bynoe was later remanded to prison and is set to make another court appearance on May 3rd before Magistrate Leron Daly.
