Labourer gets one-year for stealing gas cylinder

A 59-year-old man was yesterday sentenced to one year in prison after pleading guilty to stealing a gas cylinder.

Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus imposed the sentence on Aubrey Price, who appeared before her in Georgetown on three break and enter and larceny charges.

Price admitted that on March 15th, at Princes Street, Lodge, he broke into the home of Marsha Baird and stole a $6,000 gas cylinder. He told the court that he saw the door to the lower flat of the house, which no one resides in, open and he noticed the gas cylinder and took it.

Police Prosecutor Shellon Daniels informed the court that Baird secured her home before leaving on the morning the crime was committed and upon her return she discovered that the gas cylinder was missing.

Baird made a report at the East La Penitence Police Station and the investigation led lawmen to Price, who Daniels said admitted to the crime.

After careful consideration of all the information presented at the court, the magistrate sentenced Price to one year in prison for stealing the gas cylinder. When asked of previous charges, Price told the court that he served a two-year sentence as well as a two-month sentence for other crimes in the past.

Meanwhile, Price denied the two other charges that were levelled against him.

It is alleged that Price also broke and entered Baird’s home on February 15th and stole over $300,000 in household appliances and electronic devices. Price denied the allegation and labelled it a fabrication.

Price was also charged with breaking and entering the Princes Street, Lodge storage bond of Sharon Nurse and stealing four cases of Banks beer bottles, valued $3,600, between June 11th and June 12th. Price pleaded not guilty to the charge. He also informed the court that he worked for Nurse by fetching cases of beverages from far distances for her.

Price was remanded to prison on the two charges and the proceedings were adjourned until June 24th.
