No bail for accused thief on escaping custody charge

An accused thief is now a remanded prisoner after police told a city court that he escaped from custody.

It is alleged that Seon Maynard, 26, on June 2nd, 2019, at the Brickdam Police Station, escaped while in lawful custody for larceny.

He was brought before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus in Georgetown yesterday and he was not required to enter a plea.

Maynard informed the court of a previous simple larceny charge that resulted in him being sentenced to two months in prison.

Police prosecutor Shellon Daniels told the court that Maynard, who is still being investigated in relation to larceny, gave conflicting information to the police concerning his address. As a result, the prosecutor objected to bail being granted, while stating that Maynard was a flight risk. Maynard was subsequently refused bail and the matter was adjourned until June 24th.
