Seon Paul Singh is currently awaiting sentence for the 2012 killing of his common-law wife, Indrawattie Sugrim, whom he knifed to death on the morning of November 25th.

Throwing himself at the mercy of the court on Tuesday, Singh accepted that on the day in question he stabbed the woman at her Lot 502 Ninth Field, Cummings Lodge, Block ‘Y’ home.

Singh was originally indicted for the capital offence, but opted to plead to the lesser offence of manslaughter which was accepted by Justice James Bovell-Drakes and the prosecution.

His sentencing has, however, been deferred to July 18th, to facilitate the presentation of a probation report which is to be read at the High Court in Georgetown.

The probation report was requested by defence attorney Maxwell Mc Kay.

Presenting a summary of the facts, Prosecutor Sarah Martin said that on the day of the killing, Singh had entered the house armed with a knife which prompted screams from the now dead woman, who asked him to put the weapon away.

The prosecutor said that Sugrim’s exclamations were heard by her sister who lived immediately next door.

According to Martin, the sister heard Sugrim also shout out to her saying, “Mala ah dead.”

The court was then told that shortly after, the dead woman’s daughter arrived at home and saw Singh exiting the yard with blood on his body carrying a spade and knife in his hand.

The matter was subsequently reported to the police, and following police investigations, he was arrested and charged.
