Six Ministry of Education (MoE) Cadet Officers on Monday commenced a three-week attachment in Pomeroon-Supenaam, Region Two, where they are assigned to schools in the Pomeroon River.

A Department of Public Information (DPI) release stated that there was a small introductory ceremony in the Regional boardroom that was attended by the Assistant Chief Education Officer (Nursery), Samantha Williams; Regional Executive Officer, Regional Education Officers and the Senior Management Team of the Region.

The six Cadet Officers are Pamela Mootoo, Cindy Nelson, Hodannie Saul, Shevon Sutton, Cornella Leitch and Dawn Baker. Shortly after the introductions, the cadets proceeded to their attached schools in the Pomeroon where they will offer assistance to these schools through supervision and the provision of technical support and training to aid in the success of the students.

The host schools are Ulele Nursery/Primary, Kabakaburi Nursery /Primary and Wakapoa Primary/Secondary.

Regional Executive Officer, Denis Jaikaran, a former cadet himself, encouraged the new recruits to strive to be the best they can be and pledged his full support. He asked them to consider the region as the launch pad in their careers as Education Officers.

The MoE’s cadet training programme recruits trainees who are attached to different districts for 18 months, after which they will serve in various areas as District Education Officers, Subject Specialists and Test Development Officers, among others.

According to DPI, this programme aims to foster dynamic leaders and was designed so that there is no shortage of trained education personnel in each district. It started in 1996 then continued in 2008, 2009, 2015 and 2019 with every year seeing a significant increase in cadets.
