Linden schoolboy on life support after being struck by car

A Linden schoolboy is currently on life support at a city hospital after he was allegedly struck down by a speeding car along the Amelia’s Ward Access Road on Wednesday.

Critically injured is Derrick Rambharrat, 15, who is a Form Two student of the Linden Foundation Secondary School and a resident of Speightland, Lower Kara Kara.

Rambharrat sustained multiple injuries about his body during the accident, which occurred around 11.40 am.

Stabroek News understands that at the time of the accident, the driver of the car, bearing licence plate PTT 4790, was proceeding north along the western side of the road, allegedly at a fast rate, when Rambharrat reportedly rode into the path of the vehicle. The boy was pitched off the bicycle as a result of the impact of the collision.

He was picked up in an unconscious condition and rushed to the Linden Hospital after which he was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital. He is currently on life-support.

The driver, a 40-year-old teacher and a resident of Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden, is presently in police custody.

It remains unclear where Rambharrat was heading at the time of the accident.
