Derrick Rambharrat, the Linden schoolboy who was critically injured last Wednesday after he was allegedly struck down by a speeding car along the Amelia’s Ward Access Road, succumbed to his injuries yesterday.

Sunday Stabroek was reliably informed that Rambharrat, 15, a resident of Speightland, Lower Kara Kara, suffered multiple injuries about his body during the accident, which occurred around 11.40 am.

The Form Two student of the Linden Foundation Secondary School died around 2.30 pm yesterday at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).

He had been on life-support until his demise.

This newspaper had been told that at the time of the accident, the driver of the car, bearing licence plate PTT 4790, was proceeding north along the western side of the road, allegedly at a fast rate, when Rambharrat reportedly rode into the path of the vehicle. The boy was pitched off the bicycle as a result of the impact of the collision. He was picked up in an unconscious condition and rushed to the Linden Hospital after which he was transferred to the GPH.

The driver, a 40-year-old teacher and a resident of Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden, is in police custody assisting with the investigations.

It remains unclear where Rambharrat was heading at the time of the accident.
