West Berbice youths died of smoke inhalation, shock – autopsies

Autopsies which were done on the bodies of Danny Ross Dunraj and Kelvin Atherly-Ward, the two youths who died after their crashed car exploded, have revealed that they died due to smoke inhalation and shock from burn injuries they suffered.

The autopsies were done at Anthony’s Funeral Home, located on the West Coast of Berbice.

The two deceased along with a third youth, Permanand Arjune, were involved in an accident on Wednesday night, just after 10 pm, along the Fort Wellington Public Road.

According to information gathered, the three youths were returning from Bath, West Coast Berbice and the car in which they were travelling, a black Nissan Blue Bird, bearing licence plate number PVV 7792, toppled multiple times, then collided into a coconut tree, after which it exploded.

Dunraj, 22, of Chester Village, West Coast Berbice, and Atherly-Ward, also known as ‘Ajay,’ 23, a labourer, of Britannia Village, West Coast Berbice, succumbed on the spot, while Arjune, also known as ‘Ajay,’ 16, of Chester Village, West Coast Berbice, was rushed to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital minutes after the accident.

He has since been transferred to the New Amster0dam Public Hospital, where he remains a patient in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. 

He suffered a fractured rib along with severe burn injuries to his legs, hands and back.
