Candidate Master Ronuel Greenidge will be hosting an inaugural summer chess camp geared and enhancing the skills of young talents as well as introducing newcomers to the sport.

Speaking to Stabroek Sport, Greenidge who coaches the University of Guyana chess team explained that the camp will be divided into two groups with children aged five-six years having classes on Thursday and Friday for four weeks commencing on July 18 to August 9 where they will learn basic skills like opening moves, how the pieces move, tactics, middle game strategy, concepts and end game plays. These classes will attract a fee of $20,000.

Meanwhile the older children will learn more advanced moves in chess and will start from July 15 and run to August 7 on Mondays and Wednesdays at a cost of $30,000.

According to Greenidge, the camp will be staged at the American University of Peace Studies, Sheriff Street and will allow those interested in learning the game without interfering with their academics.

Greenidge noted that he is hopeful the camp will aid in increasing the number of young players who can go on to represent Guyana.
