Motorbiker dies in Vlissengen Road crash

A motorcyclist of Guyhoc Park, Georgetown died yesterday  in an accident on Vlissengen Road, in the vicinity of the Ministry of Agriculture, following a collision with a car.

 Police said the driver of the motor car has been arrested and is currently assisting with investigations.

The accident claimed the life of Stephon Beckles 28, of 2104, Guyhoc Park and has left the pillion rider Kevin Andy, 22 of Lot 48 Perry Street, Tucville, Georgetown hospitalized. The accident occurred just after 12.30 am yesterday.

Police investigations have revealed that the motor car PTT 2510 was travelling north along the western lane of Vlissengen Road, while the motorcycle bearing registration number CH 9859 was riding in the opposite direction at a fast rate.

The driver of the motor car  told police that the motorcycle veered over into his lane and they collided head on.

As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist and the pillion rider fell onto the road. They both sustained injuries to their heads and other parts of the bodies. They were both rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital by public-spirited citizen. At the hospital, Beckles was pronounced dead on arrival while Andy was admitted.

Beckles’ body is presently at the Georgetown Public Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.

A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver of motor car # PTT 2510 and he was found to be above the prescribed limit, police said.
