Guyana U19 camp begins today

Guyana Under – 19 cricket team will begin preparations for the 2019 Cricket West Indies (CWI) Regional Under – 19 tournament with a one-week camp, beginning today.

The encampment will be held at the Chetram Singh Centre of Excellence hostel and indoor facility which will house the 18 shortlisted players who will be drilled by Coach Julian Moore and Manager Andy Ramnarine.

The camp, according to a well-placed source at the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), will largely focus on assessing the fitness of the 18 shortlisted players, nine of whom featured in Guyana’s successful 2018 campaign. Guyana are the five-time defending champions in the one-day format, an accolade they achieved over the last five years.

The 2019 edition of the tournament is set to be held in St. Vincent and the Grenadines later in the month. This year’s tournament will only feature a one-day format which is designed to select the best regional squad to contest the 2020 ICC Under-19 World Cup in South Africa.

Meanwhile, the 18 shortlisted players feature a number of match-winners and experienced youngsters who are tailor-made to complete the double hat-trick of wins for Guyana.
