Magistrate Faith McGusty has been forced to delay a decision on the fate of Anthony King, who was charged with bludgeoning and chopping his brother-in-law to death last year, as she awaits medical advice on whether he is fit to stand trial.

During the previous hearing, a letter was sent by the doctor indicating certain things about the defendant’s condition and further information was requested as a result. However, a response was yet to be sent to the court up to yesterday.

Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones would have made several attempts to make contact with the required personnel for an update but was unable to do so.

Justin Peterkin

The matter was later adjourned until September 10th.

It is alleged that on November 5th, 2018, at Golden Grove Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, King murdered Justin Peterkin, 39, of Paradise, East Coast Demerara.

Police say Peterkin, who was an electrician, and King were visiting the family home of Peterkin’s wife, Cassandra King, located at 1323 Section ‘C’ Block ‘Y’ Golden Grove.

Police said in a statement that their investigations revealed that Peterkin and the suspect visited the Golden Grove property and soon after the owner and daughter left for work. An eyewitness subsequently saw the suspect chopping his in-law in the yard, police added.
