Over two months after the murder of Albouystown shop owner, Nalini Persaud, police investigations are still ongoing.

Fifty-eight-year-old Persaud was killed on May 2nd after she and her husband were attacked by home invaders who robbed them of cash and jewellery. Persaud was the proprietor of Nalo’s Variety Shop which she operated at the bottom flat of her James and Non Pariel streets, Albouystown home.

When Stabroek News contacted acting Crime Chief Michael Kingston yesterday, he revealed that the investigation into the matter is still open and ongoing. Kingston told Stabroek News that the ongoing investigation is a very sensitive one. The acting crime chief noted that the police are being very careful with the information that they reveal to the media.

Previous reports indicated that the couple was attacked around 3 am on the day in question by four armed masked men. After the bandits would have gained access to the building, Persaud and her husband Mahendra Rampersaud were separated as Rampersaud was taken to the bottom flat of the building and tied up.

Rampersaud had previously told Stabroek News that his wife was screaming throughout the entire ordeal. The man said that he was released some hours later by a customer who came to the shop and saw the door open.
