President pardons four men convicted of ganja possession

President David Granger yesterday pardoned four men convicted for the possession of cannabis.

A statement yesterday from the Ministry of Public Security said that the President acting pursuant to powers under article 188 of the Constitution granted Presidential Pardons to four prisoners whom he considered “fit and proper” to receive such pardons.

The statement said that the Presidential Pardons shall be effective as from today in observance of Emancipation Day. 

The prisoners are Robert Bhagnauth, age 39; Michael Gouveia, age 23; Andy Roberts, age 38; and Joseph Yaw, age 54.           

The prisoners all served a portion of their sentences for the possession of cannabis, the statement said.

“It is expected that this expression of compassion and humanity by His Excellency will result in these prisoners reuniting with their families and leading good and useful lives hereon”, the statement added.
