Courts Guyana Inc has stepped up as a corner man for the Guyana Boxing Association’s (GBA) staging of the fourth Caribbean Schoolboys and Juniors Boxing Championships later this month.

The timely partnership was made official on Tuesday when Brand Manager Odetta Aaron presented a sponsorship pact to GBA President Steve Ninvalle during a simple ceremony at the company’s Main Street headquarters.

The annual championships will be staged from August 16-18 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall and is scheduled to feature boxers from Barbados, Grenada, Cayman Islands, Dominica, St Lucia, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago. It is a significant improvement for a tournament which started with just three countries.

Aaron observed that the fistic sport locally is in dire need of support, hence it was a no brainer for Courts to commit to its development.

“Boxing is one of the sports that we find in Guyana that is not very much covered by a lot of companies and therefore that is one of the reasons we cover boxing. The sport has health benefits and is a good way to release stress, which is critical to anyone’s personal development,” Aaron said.

Ninvalle thanked Aaron for the continued support and said that the support will go a long way in the development of local boxing.

Meanwhile, Abiola Jackman, Ryan Benjamin, Patrick Harvey, Malachi Jones, Jerron McKenzie, Dwayne Baptist, Emmanual Pampy, Alex Butcher, Sherlond Stephen, Mark Crawford, Richard Howard, Jaqwan Milo, Wayne Castillo, Travis Inverary, Keyshawn Fraser and Fitz Heywood are some of the Guyanese boxers encamped and the final squad will soon be announced.

From tomorrow, the national squad will be fully encamped under the watchful eyes of coaches Sebert Blake, Lennox Daniels and Clive Atwell.

E-Networks and Massy Distribution are among the other sponsors so far. The championship is scheduled to commence at 18:00h nightly. Ringside tickets cost $1,500 each, stands $500 and season tickets (every day) $4,000.
