The Real Sports Entertainment Group (RSEG) will stage a two-day Masters Football tournament on August 11th and 12th at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.

The event is slated to feature 16 teams that will be divided into four groups of four. The first day will feature group stage matches, with the top two finishers from each section progressing to the elimination round.

This will occur on the second match-day. Presently, several teams have confirmed their participation in the event. They are Club 45, Customs, Black Pearl, Park Rangers, Pele and Santos.

Several other teams such as Rasta Patriarch, Beacons, Buxton and Golden Grove, among others, have signalled their intention of participating in the tournament.

According to an official release from RSEG, which consists of co-directors Challus McKinnon and Joel Gibson, the decision to stage a Masters football tournament centred on the lack of football activity at this age range.

“Joel and I are friends from University of Guyana (UG). We represented UG in football tournaments. Now we are both over 40 and came to the realisation that there is an opportunity or space to promote Masters football. Thus, the idea of the tournament. People should understand that older folks are still human and should not be discarded because of age,” McKinnon said.

“The GFF has already demonstrated to us that they would like to see us succeed. We had several meetings in which areas such as rules were discussed, refereeing of games, assistance with equipment and further guidance,” he added.

Among the sponsors of the event are ANSA McAL, SuperBet, Ministry of the Presidency, Ministry of Social Protection, Survival Supermarket, Kings Jewellery World, Nirva Supermarket, Magistrate Bess, Attorney Mark Waldron, Magistrate Annette Singh, Trophy Stall, Tropical (Fish Export), Discount Store, Star Party Rental and Junior Jewellery and Pawn Shop.
