Bandits rob overseas-based Guyanese, relatives at Fyrish

Two bandits armed with hand guns invaded the Fyrish Village, Corentyne house of an overseas-based Guyanese on Thursday and robbed her and her relatives of valuables.

Stabroek News was told that as of yesterday a labourer, 26, from Fyrish Village, has been  arrested for questioning in relation to the robbery.

According to information gathered, the bandits jumped over the fence of the yard located at Lot 1 Fyrish Village, Corentyne, sometime around 9.30 pm on Thursday while the overseas-based Guyanese, Rewattie Taikeram, 58, and two of her relatives, Babita Hera, 27, and Rayon Monya, 29, who reside at the same address, were sitting in the veranda located in the lower flat.

The bandits held Taikeram and her relatives at gunpoint while demanding they hand over cash and jewellery.

Stabroek News was told that the bandits during the incident dealt Taikeram a slap in her face.

The men carted off three gold finger rings and one IPhone valued $200,000 from Taikeram, two gold finger rings valued $70,000, one Samsung Galaxy S8 valued $147,000, and one gold chain valued $23,000 from Hera and one gold finger ring valued $60,000 from Monya. 

The police are continuing the investigation.
