Vendor jailed for three years over ganja

A vendor was yesterday sentenced to three years in prison after admitting to a marijuana trafficking charge.

Fitzroy Gibson was in February charged with the possession of 6.158 kilogrammes of cannabis (equivalent to 13.57 pounds) for the purpose of trafficking on February 5th. When Gibson was initially charged, he pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded to prison.  When the matter was called yesterday before Magistrate Leron Daly, Gibson changed his plea to guilty and was handed a three-year sentence by the magistrate, who before sentencing, considered that he did not waste the court’s time further.

According to previous reports, the man was charged after his mother had reported him to the police. Gibson’s mother had reported to officers at the East La Penitence Police Station that her son had broken and entered her home and subsequently hid a quantity of marijuana in the house and the backyard.

Gibson’s mother took ranks to her home and they were shown the parcels containing the cannabis. The man was later arrested and admitted that the narcotics belonged to him.
