This year’s Guyana Cup horse race meet is saddling up to be the best one yet and B.M Soat Auto Sales and the Trophy Stall are among the latest entities that were eager to partner with the event. 

Recently, the two companies presented sponsorship pacts to representatives to aid in the success of the annual fixture.

It was also disclosed that the 13th Guyana Cup horse race meet scheduled for August 18 at the Rising Sun Turf Club also had a jump of $5M in prize money up from $15M to $20M.

With an increase in the prize money this year, the event is sure to see an increase in participants. Chief organizer and Chairman of the Jumbo Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee (JJTRC), Nasrudeen Mohamed Jr. noted that in addition to the feature C and lower race which will see the winning stable owner pocketing $2M, the three-year-old Guyana bred race will see the winner running away with a $1M bounty.

A total of eight races are on the cards and after the race-meet, fans will enjoy a concert that will feature six international artistes. Already confirmed for the concert are Gage, Munga Honorable, Kristo and K.I.

The prize money for the races are as follows:

–     C Class and lower feature race over a distance of one mile for –   $2million,

–          Three-year-old Guyana Bred – $1million

–          G3 and lower – $400,000

–           L3 and lower (open to non-winners from Trinidad & Tobago) – $350,000

–          Two-year-old Guyana bred over – $300,000.

–          J3 and lower over seven furlongs – $300,000.

–          L Class for Colts – $250,000

–          L Class Philly and Mare – $250,000

Some of the top steeds expected to be on show on race day includes: Vera’s Finally (two-time winner), Don’t Overlook, Just Call Me Boss, Crown the King (Jamaica), Doublin Fashion (USA), Chameli (Jamaica), Safara (Jamaica), Southern Express (T&T), Silver & Things (T&T), Sitarr (T&T), Kentucky Woman (T&T), Super Easy (T&T) and Princess She’s Not.

Apart from the foreign contingent of thoroughbreds on show, several leading jockeys from overseas are also expected to compete and add a further international flavour to the day’s event.

Fans will be able to enjoy the both the horse race meet and concert for the price of $2000.
