Rose Hall fire leaves woman homeless

A Rose Hall Town, Corentyne fire on Wednesday has left an elderly woman homeless, after the two-storey wooden and concrete house she took care of was completely destroyed.

Bhagwanttie Peters, 54, of Lot 13 Sabsook Street, Rose Hall Town, explained, that she lit a coil and left it in the downstairs bedroom and moments after proceeded upstairs after which she saw flames emanating from the lower flat. “The fire start pick up big and me run go call neighbour”.

She said, the coil caught onto the bed which was in the room and resulted in the fire.

What remained after the fire.

According to Peters, the fire started at around 8 pm. She said, the owners of the house reside overseas and she could not give an estimate of losses, “Everything burn up, all me clothes and so, me na get nothing, me na get nowhere to stay”, an emotional Peters said.

She is pleading with the general public for assistance as she has no relative to turn too. She can be contacted on telephone number 337 4699.

A vehicle which was parked under the house was also destroyed in the fire, while a neighbour’s house was scorched.

According to the neighbour, Devika Inshanally, “The Rose Hall fire (tender) must be take half an hour to reach and when it reach it had lil bit water inside and when Albion one come it had no water inside, the house been already come down when Albion once reach and then they had to go for water in front on the big trench and get water”.
