The senior Durgana was beaten in the face and kicked multiple times to his stomach, while his son Shahid sustained numerous blows to his face and head. The victims were treated at the hospital and released.

A relative disclosed that the men took the couple into their grocery shop and demanded $4 million. After the couple insisted they did not have such a large amount of money, they were then beaten.

The men proceeded to ransack the entire house and made off with one computer tablet, three cell phones, two watches and an undisclosed amount of cash.

However, before making good their escape, the bandits told the family members to hug each other after which they were locked in the toilet.

Although no one has since been arrested, a police source said that they are working on a lead.

Relatives of Samaroo also alleged that the police arrived close to 35 minutes after they were called on Sunday. They claimed that the police seemed intoxicated and although the relatives requested their assistance to take the victims to the hospital, the police only took a report and left.

The officer in charge of the sub-division has since visited the family and assured them that the matter would be thoroughly investigated.
