Residents of Mahaicony in Region 5 have called for the re-opening of the sub-office of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) in the area. They believe this move will allow for speedier development, the Department of Public Information (DPI) reported yesterday.

The farming areas of Cottage and Perseverance brought several issues to Minister of Citizenship, Winston Felix yesterday, among them, the need for a regional sub-office , DPI said.

Felix met with the residents at the Cottage Nursery School, as part of region-wide community meetings being conducted by several ministers of the government.

Critics have said that the government has embarked on all-out campaigning  for general elections while not naming a date for elections and expending large sums in making many promises.

DPI said that the residents relayed that while development has been taking place in Mahaicony, the existence of a sub-office will guarantee faster completion of works.

Felix in reply said that the newly reconstituted Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) must firstly ensure that all of its issues are brought to the attention of the RDC through the Regional Executive Officer (REO). He added that the NDC must become more involved in developmental works.

Felix also learnt of several breaches in the sea defence at Cottage, an issue that is causing continuous flooding in the various communities.
