Drainage and security issues in the Profit/Foulis area on the West Coast of Berbice will be addressed. The Department of Public Information (DPI) yesterday said that this assurance was given by the Minister of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs,  Sydney Allicock during a community engagement.

Yesterday, the minister conducted a walkabout in the community where he met residents who are mostly rice and livestock farmers. DPI said that resident Subrina Ramroop took the opportunity to highlight the need for the drains to be cleared.

Malika Bacchus made known the issues facing youths in the area. Support was sought for the construction of either a playfield or community centre. It was stated that there are many talented young men and young women involved in sports such as football and cricket, and a ‘safe space’ would be beneficial. Bacchus also requested a library or a club for the younger ones.

Allicock assured that all issues raised will be addressed.

He advised the residents to be conscious of the potential and prosperity that Guyana has to offer its citizens, given the coming of oil.
