Maximo seeking to build capacity of local coaches

Newly appointed Golden Jaguars interim Head-Coach, Márcio Máximo, will conduct a capacity building forum with the coaches of the Elite League clubs which will serve as preparation for the upcoming CONCACAF Nations League.

“This initiative is geared towards building capacity of the local coaches where they will have an opportunity to observe the sessions and ask questions as necessary,” a release from the GFF stated.

The forum is set to commence tomorrow. Coaches from Den Amstel, the Guyana Police Force and Victoria Kings will attend the opening day and the August 29th sessions.

Similarly, Buxton United, Fruta Conquerors and Ann’s Grove will feature on August 27th and  August 30th while Santos and Milerock will attend the August 28th and August 31 sessions.

Western Tigers and the  Guyana Defence Force [GDF] will attend as soon as their head-coaching vacancy is filled.

Brazilian Máximo was appointed as the Interim Head-Coach for the 2019-2020 CONCACAF Nations League effective of August 21st, after incumbent Michael Johnson officially tendered his resignation from the post effective of August 13th.   Johnson, who was appointed to the helm of the local programme last  June, oversaw the team’s maiden campaign and 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup qualification.

According to the release, Maximo possesses over 30 years of knowledge at the national and club levels and is the holder of a CONMEBOL (South American Football Confederation) Pro License.

At the end of the Nations League campaign, a performance evaluation will be conducted.

The Golden Jaguars will commence their League-B campaign in the CONCACAF Nations League September 6th away to Aruba in Curacao.

It will be the first of six matches for the 21st ranked Guyanese. Following their match-up with the 31st ranked Arubans, Guyana will host 6th ranked Jamaica on September 9th.

The second round of matches will occur in October, with Guyana travelling to the 22nd ranked Antigua and Barbuda unit on the 11th, before hosting the reverse fixture three days later.

The final round of matches will then occur during the month of November. Guyana will host Aruba on the 15th, before travelling to Jamaica three days later.

Winner of the group will advance to the League-A section of the competition in the subsequent edition.
